The bookings of War 2 and Coolie have begun in most theatres of the country and as always, one of the barometers to watch out for is Gaiety-Galaxy aka G7 Multiplex in Mumbai. Trade and industry are surprised that the management of this iconic single-screen complex has opted for a unique showcasing, which was not expected.
REVEALED: UNIQUE showcasing for War 2 and Coolie in G7 multiplex; Rajinikanth-starrer bags 2 shows in 800-seater Galaxy due to healthy demand
A trade source told Bollywood Hungama, “It’s common knowledge that War 2 has a much higher chance in the Hindi-speaking markets while Coolie, which is a Tamil film being dubbed in Hindi, will be the second choice. Also, when an event film releases, it is usually accommodated with all shows in the biggest theatres of G7, that is, the 1000-seater Gaiety and 800-seater Galaxy. This is what happened during Pathaan, Tiger 3, Sikandar etc.”
The trade source continued, “Hence, it was a given that War 2 will be released in Gaiety and Galaxy while Coolie’s Hindi version will be played in the 238-seater Gemini with four shows a day. However, that hasn’t happened. Coolie has been accommodated 2 shows in Gemini, at 3:00 pm and 9:30 pm, while the matinee show of 11:30 am and the evening 6:00 pm show have been allotted in Galaxy. As for War 2, it has four shows in Gaiety, at 12:00 pm, 3:15 pm, 6:30 pm and 9:45 pm. The other four shows are divided between Galaxy and Gemini. The 11:30 am show and 6:15 pm of War 2 will be played in Gemini and the 2:45 pm and 9:15 pm shows have been allotted in Galaxy.”
An industry insider commented, “Earlier, only the advance booking of the two shows of Coolie in Gemini was thrown open. The response to it was terrific. This must have given the distributors of Coolie the motivation to demand the balance shows in Galaxy. Realizing that the Coolie has some demand and bookings for War 2 yet to pick up in a big way, the Gaiety-Galaxy management must have agreed.”
If War 2 manages to better its advance sales, it would lead to a healthy Independence Day weekend at Gaiety-Galaxy and be on par with the 2023 August 15 extended week when both Gadar 2 and OMG 2 rocked the show in this cinema complex.
