Actress Sadia Khateeb has stepped into the national conversation as a strong critic of the Supreme Court’s recent and highly controversial directive to relocate all stray dogs from Delhi and the NCR to designated shelters.

Taking to Instagram Stories, the Raksha Bandhan star voiced her concerns in no uncertain terms, writing: “Who is giving them this right? Let’s raise our voices together.” Her statement quickly resonated with animal lovers and welfare advocates, adding momentum to an already heated nationwide debate that weighs public safety against humane treatment of animals.
The Supreme Court’s ruling comes amid reports of a worrying surge in dog-bite incidents and rabies cases—figures that have reportedly climbed to as many as 2,000 cases daily. Under the directive, all street dogs—regardless of whether they are vaccinated or sterilized—are to be removed and relocated to shelters within an eight-week period. While the move is positioned as a measure to safeguard public health, it has drawn sharp criticism from animal rights groups. They argue that the mass displacement violates established Animal Birth Control (ABC) guidelines, risks extreme overcrowding in shelters, and could endanger the very lives of the animals it seeks to manage.
Sadia’s remarks reflect a growing sentiment that the focus should instead be on more sustainable, compassionate solutions—such as consistent sterilization and vaccination drives, community feeding programs, and public awareness campaigns—rather than sweeping removals. Many activists also fear the disruption of long-established street dog packs, which can cause behavioural and ecological imbalances.
On the professional front, Sadia is keeping busy. She is currently working on the upcoming film Silaa, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Karan Veer Mehra among others.
