Following its world premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, Homebound — starring Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor, and Vishal Jethwa — is set to close the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) this year. The film will be screened as the festival’s official closing selection, bringing global attention to one of the most talked-about Indian titles on the festival circuit.

Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan and produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra, Homebound features Martin Scorsese as an executive producer. Co-producers include Marijke deSouza and Melita Toscan du Plantier.
Homebound is an emotionally charged drama centered on two childhood friends from northern India who aspire to become police officers as a means to escape their difficult realities. As they inch closer to their dream, cracks begin to appear in their bond, revealing the personal costs of ambition and transformation.
Speaking about the film’s selection, director Neeraj Ghaywan said, “Homebound explores the fragile threads of friendship, ambition, and the emotional cost of breaking free to come into your own. IFFM has long championed meaningful cinema, and I’m very excited that Homebound is part of that legacy as their closing film.”

IFFM 2025 will be held from August 14 to 24 across Melbourne, featuring film screenings, industry panels, red carpet appearances, and the prestigious IFFM Awards.
