Congratulations on the success of the song ‘Barbaad’ from Saiyaara. How has the response been?
Thank you so much! ‘Barbaad’ is one of those songs that came straight from the soul. The moment I heard the composition, I knew there was something hauntingly beautiful about it. But the real magic happened after the release. The messages I’ve received from people saying it helped them through heartbreaks or reminded them of lost love have been overwhelming. As a singer, there’s no bigger blessing than to know that your voice has become someone’s comfort or memory (smiles).

Did you get a chance to see the film in cinemas? If yes, how were people reacting to the film and to your song in the theatre and your shows?
Actually, I haven’t had the chance to watch Saiyaara in the cinema yet. But I’ve been hearing incredible things from friends, fans and people from the industry. They’ve told me how ‘Barbaad’ hits differently when it plays in the film and how it amplifies the emotion of the scene. That kind of response tells me everything I need to know.

Mohit Suri is known for soulful music in his films. I believe this was your first collaboration with him. How was the experience?
Mohit sir has a beautiful way of using music to express what words can’t. I genuinely felt like I was collaborating with someone who lives and breathes emotion. He wasn’t just directing a song; he was shaping a feeling. I’ll always be thankful to him for trusting me with ‘Barbaad’.

Did you and Mohit Suri ever plan to work before ‘Barbaad’?
We had connected a couple of times earlier and there was always mutual respect. I truly believe ‘Barbaad’ came to me at the right moment, both emotionally and musically. It felt like everything aligned and I was ready to pour a deeper version of myself into the song.

What do you have to say about Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, on whom your song is picturised?
Ahaan and Aneet have done something really special with ‘Barbaad’, especially with their chemistry, their restraint and their emotional honesty. As a singer, when you see your voice reflected through performances, it’s very moving.

How important has social media been in your journey and in giving justice to your songs?
Social media has truly changed the game. It gives songs a second, third and even fourth life. I’ve had tracks that didn’t get the spotlight initially but later blew up online just because people shared them from the heart. For me, it’s also a way to stay connected with fans. When someone tags me in a video of them crying or smiling while listening to one of my songs, that’s real. That’s powerful.

Today, every song in Saiyaara feels like an anthem. What did the makers do right? What can others learn from this?
The team behind Saiyaara treated the music like a central character, not an afterthought. That’s why every track stands on its own and still fits perfectly into the story. One should always trust good music, give it space to breathe in the film and don’t compromise on emotion. Timeless songs aren’t made in a rush.

You have songs coming out in Son Of Sardaar 2 (‘Nazar Battu’) and Dhadak 2 (‘Bas Ek Dhadak’). Both films are releasing on August 1. What can fans expect?
Yes, it’s going to be a big day! Son Of Sardaar 2 has this vibrant, high-energy track that I had so much fun recording; it’s got that classic desi celebration vibe. Dhadak 2 is on the opposite spectrum: soft, emotional, and romantic. I love that I get to showcase both moods in the same month.

What else can we expect from you this year?
I’ve been working on some independent EP that’s very close to my heart and is raw, honest, and very ‘me’. There are also a few movie songs in the pipeline. Apart from that, I’ve been composing more and journaling my thoughts into melodies. It’s going to be a year of growth, evolution, and hopefully deeper connections with my listeners.

Will ‘Barbaad’ be a permanent part of your concerts now?
Without a doubt. Every artist has a few songs that stay with them forever, and ‘Barbaad’ has definitely earned that place in my heart and in my setlist.
