The Saiyaara wave was so strong that makers of Ajay Devgn-starrer Son Of Sardaar 2 decided to push their film forward by a week. Meanwhile, this Friday, July 25, will see the release of two films – The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Mahavatar Narsimha. While the former is a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the latter is an animated mythological Pan-India film backed by Hombale Films of KGF and Kantara fame. Can these films work despite the huge competition from Saiyaara? We asked trade experts to comment on this aspect.

Vishek Chauhan, owner of Roopbani Cinema in Purnia, Bihar, who is very much updated about recent releases, shocked us when he said, “I had not heard of Mahavatar Narsimha. No distributor has called me regarding that film,” hinting that if he doesn’t know about the film, there’s a chance that even the public might not be aware of it. He added, “As for Fantastic Four, it’s a misfire from Marvel again. The trailer hasn’t worked. Marvel is still struggling to get its act together. At least in India, I doubt if it’ll work. It’s not a big brand here.”

Will these films be affected due to Saiyaara? Vishek Chauhan disagreed, “Saiyaara might earn Rs. 150 crores in Week 1. Now that’s a big chunk of the audience who has already seen the film. If they are excited to watch The Fantastic Four: First Steps, they’ll definitely go for it. Yet, if the audience is not excited to see it, the problem lies with the film. The advance booking is underwhelming in the Asian market. It’ll be nowhere close to the 3 recent Hollywood hits – F1: The Movie, Jurassic World: Rebirth and Superman. Hence, I don’t think these two films are going to have any impact on Saiyaara’s run.”

Trade veteran Taran Adarsh, meanwhile, said, “The Saiyaara wave is powerful. With due respect to the makers of the two films, I feel Saiyaara will be the first choice in the Hindi-speaking markets at least. This film is unstoppable and unshakable at the box office. Yeh ek aisa toofan hai jo jaldi thamne waala nahin hai.”

Trade analyst Atul Mohan opined, “Yes, it’ll be difficult for The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Mahavatar Narsimha. When a film works in such a manner, that film gets priority in terms of showcasing. In such a scenario, if new releases haven’t generated enough hype, they can be at a disadvantage.”
