Actor Randeep Hooda took to social media to share a heartfelt note on the passing of his horse Ranji, who died this week at the age of 23. Known for his bond with animals, especially horses, Hooda expressed his sadness over the loss.

In his note, Hooda reflected on Ranji’s remarkable journey — from being turned down by the army due to his small build and an unsuccessful eye surgery, to narrowly avoiding a life pulling tangas, before eventually becoming a skilled jumper and a close companion.
Randeep wrote, “He came into my life outta sheer destiny and made my life so much richer. Always wanting to be running free… he jumped that way too. He took me flying over many an obstacle, sometimes with my eyes shut for the scare of it and won me many a medal.”
Named after Maharaja Ranjit Singh Gaekwar because of his one eye, Ranji lived a spirited and free-spirited life. Despite being diagnosed with Laminitis – a serious condition that can often be fatal – he showed resilience, recovering several times with the help of attentive care from his grooms and veterinary team.
The actor also fondly recalled Ranji’s spirited personality, his playful escapes, and his resilience, which lasted until his final days. “He still needed two grooms to hold him when taken for a walk… he even tried to jump out of the stable on his last night as if he wanted to fly away. And fly away he did.”
Randeep Hooda’s tribute is not only a farewell to a beloved companion but also a celebration of a life that defied the odds and left behind a trail of inspiration.
