Bringing a whole new flavour of Punjab to the big screen, Mrunal Thakur is all set to dazzle audiences as the vibrant Rabia in the upcoming Son of Sardaar 2. But what truly makes her performance special is the behind-the-scenes effort she poured into making the character authentic — including learning to play the dhol for nearly three months.

On Tuesday, the actress took to her social media to share an emotional video capturing moments from her dhol practice sessions. In the heartwarming post, Mrunal opened up about her journey, “There’s a certain kind of joy in truly enjoying the process. It keeps me grounded, keeps me going and honestly, I don’t know who I’d be without it. Learning the dhol for Son of Sardar 2 was one of those moments… tiring, thrilling, and so, so special. Just feeling super grateful for it all. This is my one small attempt towards bringing a smile to everyone’s faces, I can’t wait for you all to see more of Rabia and the entire crazy family. A biggest thank you to @mangalkalyan and his team, aap logo ke bina nahi ho pata yeh. You all have been so patient and kind.”
Known for immersing herself in her roles, Mrunal’s preparation went beyond the sets. While shooting for another untitled project with director Ravi Udyawar during the day, she would head to dhol training post pack-up, sometimes rehearsing till late at night. The video and her commitment definitely seems to be winning hearts on the platform.
Fans will get to witness the full transformation when Son of Sardaar 2, directed by Vijay Kumar Arora and co-starring Ajay Devgn, hits theatres on August 1. The film also marks Mrunal’s first major outing in a massy commercial entertainer.
Beyond this, the actress has an exciting slate ahead with Dacoit: A Love Story starring Adivi Sesh and Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai with Varun Dhawan and Pooja Hegde in the pipeline. With the dhol in her hands and fire in her spirit, Mrunal Thakur is ready to drum her way into the audience’s hearts.
