Daboo Malik attended the launch of his book ‘Never Too Late’ at a bookstore in Mumbai. It was attended by his wife Jyoti and sons Amaal Mallik and Armaan Malik. Daboo was in a great mood as he talked about the book, his family and a lot more.
Daboo Malik at his book launch reveals that Saiyaara director Mohit Suri expressed desire to make a biopic on the Malik family; also jokes, “Hamare family ki bahut saari controversy Amaal ne create kar di hai”
Daboo Malik began by saying, “From the age of 12, I have carried anecdotes that were told to me by my father, Shri Sardar Malik, and the incredible journey he had from the age of 15. When Amaal and Armaan were growing and when they started making fantastic music, I felt that they needed to know this story before it gets forgotten. I wanted to create a simple, easy-to-read book which they could carry as a legacy of the Malik family.”
He further said, “It’s easy to read. Whenever you open the book, whether it’s page no 199 or page no 270 or page no 10, there’s a story on each page. On the left-hand side, you’ll see pictures to prove that the moment shared in the story has indeed happened!”
On a hopeful note, Daboo stated, “Eventually, I hope it becomes a book that could inspire millions, especially musicians. If my book could bring some change in anybody’s life, I’ll think that I have written a good book!”
He also revealed, “It’s a story of a man who fought against all odds. 99 times, he only failed (smiles). So, this is not a success story. Whatever happened, he kept on walking towards his goals. That is the message of ‘Never Too Late’. Nothing should stop you – time, age, etc. Do what your heart desires and fulfil your dreams.”
Daboo Malik also spoke highly of Amaal Mallik and Armaan Malik, “When my sons were growing up, my father made me promise that I should provide them the best of education in music. He said, ‘Inko sangeet itna sikhana ki yeh Sardar Malik ki legacy ko aage le jaaye’. This was his wish and I prayed that it should happen. The rest is history.”
He put a smile on everyone’s face as he stated, “I told my elder son, ‘You should compose 120 blockbuster songs. 60 of your films should be super-hit’. He managed to do both! I told Armaan, ‘Sing so well that people all over the world should praise your singing’. Wherever I go, I am told, ‘Aapke baccho ne kamaal kar diya’!”
Daboo Malik also took this opportunity of honouring his talented brother, “My brother Anu did a tremendous job in taking the legacy forward.” He raised laughs as he hinted about the recent controversy, “Hamare family ki bahut saari controversy Amaal ne create kar di hai!” Amaal could be seen having a hearty laugh over it.
Towards the end, the host asked if a film was made on the Malik family, who should play them? Daboo Malik replied, “Amaal will play the role of Daboo Malik while I will play the role of Sardar Malik. Armaan will play Armaan Malik (smiles). Music will be by Amaal Mallik. The only condition is that we get Mohit Suri to direct!”
It led to another wave of laughter, with many assuming that Daboo Malik mentioned the name of the maverick director as his latest film Saiyaara has emerged as a blockbuster. However, Daboo Malik, at this point, revealed, “And there’s a reason for it. We had a discussion with Mohit once upon a time when he said that he wanted to make a family story (smiles).”
