Actress Kalki Koechlin, who was earlier married to filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, recently spoke candidly about their emotional divorce and the amicable relationship they’ve maintained since. The two first met on the sets of her debut film Dev D and got married in 2011 at Kalki’s maternal home in Ooty. However, by 2013, they announced their separation and officially finalized their divorce in 2015. Opening up about that phase, the Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani actress admitted that the initial years post-separation were difficult for both of them.

In a recent interview with Zoom, Kalki Koechlin shared that there was a point when both she and Anurag Kashyap realized, “We need to stay out of each other’s lives.” She further added, “It was hurtful to see the other person with somebody else; the reminders were just so strong.” Despite the emotional challenges following their separation, the former couple has managed to maintain a cordial and respectful relationship post-divorce.

Kalki Koechlin revealed that it took them several years to reach a place of mutual comfort and understanding. She shared that they didn’t reconnect immediately after the separation and initially kept some distance, which proved to be helpful. “Now we are in a good place and we are able to catch up once in a while,” she added, highlighting the respectful and balanced equation they now share.

Notably, Kalki Koechlin also attended Anurag Kashyap’s daughter Aaliyah Kashyap’s wedding to Shane Gregoire, which was held in a traditional Hindu ceremony in Mumbai on December 11, 2024. Her presence at the celebration reflected the cordial and respectful bond she continues to share with Anurag and his family.

Nevertheless, both Kalki Koechlin and Anurag Kashyap have moved on in their respective lives. Kalki is now married to Guy Hershberg, an Israeli musician. The couple welcomed their daughter, Sappho, in February 2020, prior to tying the knot.

Talking about her husband Guy, Kalki Koechlin shared, “He’s Jewish. Part Russian, part Polish, part Iranian. I’m of French origin, born and brought up in India. My first name is Hindu, my last name is Protestant. We have a daughter with a Greek name to whom we speak in Hebrew, French, Hindi, and Tamil. We don’t follow any religious rites at home, but we share our different customs and food. We fight every day about whose turn it is to do the dishes, and we always split our dessert in equal parts.”

The couple reportedly first met at a petrol station while on their way to the Dead Sea, which lies between Israel and Jordan. Their connection deepened over the years through ongoing conversations, eventually leading them to decide to start a family together.
