Karan Johar and Subhash Ghai Applaud Saiyaara’s Impact
Karan Johar, in an emotionally charged note, described his experience watching Saiyaara as both “tearful” and “joyful.” He praised Mohit Suri for delivering the best film of his career and credited YRF for bringing romance back to Indian cinema. “Ahaan Panday, you broke my heart and energised me as a filmmaker,” Johar wrote, calling his debut “spectacular.” He also commended Aneet Padda for her silent yet moving performance.
Veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai also joined the chorus of appreciation, using the success of Saiyaara to highlight a shift in filmmaking priorities. “When a new star cast film creates a wave at the box office, it sends a clear message to investors and producers — that good storytelling, balanced budgets, and the right casting matter more than extravagant spends on stars and marketing,” Ghai noted.
Directed by Mohit Suri and released on July 18, Saiyaara marks a significant moment for Yash Raj Films, which introduced fresh faces to the screen through its talent arm, YRF Talent. The romantic drama stars Ahaan Panday in his first lead role, alongside Big Girls Don’t Cry actor Aneet Padda.
